別府の温泉文化の中に息づく湯治のための宿泊形態「貸間」から名付けられたアーティスト・イン・レジデンス事業です。2008年より継続開催し、2012年までに14組のアーティストを迎えています。
本事業は、世界的な活躍が期待されるアーティストの発掘、およびアーティストと地域住民との交流促進を目的に展開しています。
The npo BEPPU PROJECT is running a national and international artistic residency
program in Beppu (JAPAN) within a five-year grant from the Agency for Cultural Affairs in
Japan. Kashima, in Japanese, refers to the place where you stay when you heal your
body and soul by doing spa-theraty in the onsen (natural hot spring). BEPPU PROJECT
is running this International Residency Program to welcome artists and their creations
from all over the world in Beppu city. We aim at bringing high level creations of the
international artistic world into a local scene.
「A COURSE THROUGHOUT BEPPU CITY」＝「別府そぞろ歩き」をテーマに、海外のアーティストを対象に公募し、800組を超える応募の中から、韓国とフランスより２組のアーティストを招聘しました。
別府を旅するように、町の各所に現れる作品を体験してみませんか。
なお、会期終了後も作品は継続してご覧いただけます。
KASHIMA - International Artistic Residency welcome artists from South Korea and France. The given theme is: *A COURSE THROUGHOUT BEPPU*. Beppu is a moving city, the water flows massively, a lot of tourists and population transit. Part of this living movement, artists in residency will give new perspectives and draw physical and imaginary ways in the city. Their creation will be visible everywhere in the city, open you eyes (and your ears)!

インターネット上で楽しめるクリエイティブメディア"Arte Radio"の創設者であるシルバンとクリストフが、別府の町じゅうを巡る「音の旅」を提供します。日常の生活音から、町で飛び交う人々の声まで、あらゆる音から作品が生まれます。このラジオジャーニーは、会期終了後もHP上でご鑑賞いただけます。
Silvain and Christophe founded Arte Radio, a creative online media. During their residence in Beppu, they will imagine a sound journey accross the city, taking sounds from the environment and recording plurality of voices. The sound journey will be avaible for listening online on an interactive map and for downloading to take away for a walk in Beppu!

別府の人々の写真と風景が詩的に融合する絵画作品を制作します。
彼らが別府の町を歩き、体験し、あらゆる角度から切り取った別府。
巨大なものから小さなものまで、町を歩けばあちこちで彼らの作品に出会えます。
Elodie and Seung-Hwan will create poetic drawings and photos mixing landscapes and portraits of inhabitants of Beppu. From the collected material, they will make gigantic or small paper graffiti to be shown in the streets.
